Dare You Brave ‘The Lost Lagoon’?
By Tom Wilkinson
Bompas and Parr‘s latest London-based experience is the pirate themed Lost Lagoon. You and your crew mates will sail the high seas and collect ingredients to mix a rum punch under the direction of Captain Morgan and his pirate crew.
While the entrance may be unassuming as you head through a side door and into the basement of a shopping centre, you will soon be transported to another time and place. First things first, though, as your guides will ask you to pick leaders to follow through the dark while you are blindfolded with bandanas.
As you follow the person in front with one hand on a rope, you will hear the occasional distant cheer, running water, and the sounds of the Caribbean. Once you are instructed to remove your blindfold, you are taken to your first drink in the Cave of Wonders where you will be told what it is you seek in the Lost Lagoon: the ingredients for the Captain’s Punch.
Follow the Map to the Lost Lagoon
After you have finished your drink, you will pass through Port Royal and be split into crews of up to four people. Pick your Captain and First Mate wisely, as they will be given a map to find your way around the Lost Lagoon. Once you are ready to explore, a local pirate will put you into your boat with a mixing jar to fill with ingredients. As you row around the Lost Lagoon you will encounter a pirate to trade with, islands full of botanicals and fruits, as well as a witch who will have you purge your pirate rage into your beverage.
Once your hearty crew has retrieved the ingredients of their choice, you can row towards the dock where you will be met by Captain Morgan himself. The Captain will give you your choice of vessel in which to mix your punch before announcing your achievements to everyone at The Satisfaction bar where you will be cheered as you enter.
Captain & Tonic: I tend to only mix my tonic with gin, but rum and tonic is definitely a drink I will add to my repertoire now. Lightly spiced and refreshing, it was the perfect tonic to start the evening while we heard the Cave’s instructions. A long enough drink to last just up until we boarded our ships
The Captain’s Punch: After you’ve collected all your ingredients and your vessel, one of the bar staff will mix your punch and pass you the filled vessel. They’ll mix enough to serve each of your crew several times. Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labours. Our punch had Earl Grey, honey, dark Captain Morgan’s, cardamom, and almond mixed with lime. The finished article was light and refreshing to wash away any tiredness from the rowing. A delightful end to our journey.
Once you have finished you can sit in the bar and watch as other crews try their hand at finding the Captain’s treasures. Raise a glass and cheer their triumphs as they arrive at The Satisfaction which also offers extra beverages to drink for as long as you want to stay in the bar.
