If you’ve got what it takes to photo-bomb like Cumberbatch or take selfies like Obama and want to see your work displayed in London’s leading contemporary art gallery, well, now’s your chance.
Launched to coincide with a new Saatchi Gallery exhibit entitled From Selfie to Self-Expression, the #SaatchiSelfie Competition (entries close March 19th ) is open to anyone over aged 16 and is extremely easy to enter. Run in conjunction with smartphone maker Huawei, simply upload up to six selfies to the competition website at www.saatchigallery.com/selfie. Ten lucky winners will be selected to have their work exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery, with a grand prizewinner being announced at the show’s debut on March 30th. (Once submitted, all entries can be shared on social media directly from a profile page created on the Saatchi Gallery’s website.)
In addition to showcasing the work of winning entrants, the exhibition will explore the fascinating evolution of the selfie throughout history, from the works of the old masters to today’s leading artists. Highlights include specially commissioned works by 10 of Britain’s leading young photographers, each tasked with creating new works using Huawei’s latest dual lens smartphones.
“In many ways, the selfie represents the epitome of contemporary culture’s transition into a highly digitalized and technologically advanced age as mobile phone technology has caught up with the camera,” says Nigel Hurst, Saatchi Gallery’s CEO. “The exhibition will present a compelling insight into the history and creative potential of the selfie, while the #SaatchiSelfie competition provides a global platform for self-expression.”
From Selfie to Self-Expression is on at the Saatchi Gallery from March 31st to May 30th, 2017.
