The Rolls-Royce Black Badge is, as the clever marketers of this remarkable car tell us, quite definitely the ultimate vehicle for those that dare to be different, who thumb their nose at conformity. Or so we’re told….
But whatever you glean from the advertising, the Black Badge is certainly the antithesis of the usual RR (and thus probably not for the typical RR owner). Has there ever been a braver, more audacious motorcar, one as black as the shadows, as dark as the night?
This autumn, HR Owen’s world-famous Rolls-Royce Motor Cars London dealership will welcome the all-new Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge, one of the stars of the 2017 Festival of Speed where it was debuted. Developed by Rolls-Royce to quench the desire of a new breed of owners, HR Owen’s Berkeley Square showroom will be the only place the drophead coupé will be sold.
“Black Badge is an alter-ego for our marque that captivates the disrupters, the innovators and those that accept no limitations,” says a gushing Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, of his new baby. “Standing as a truly bespoke response to the desires of a new breed of entrepreneur, Black Badge has already distinctly amplified the characters of the Ghost and Wraith, placing them into the consciousness of those that seek a commanding presence in the objects they commission. Overwhelming demand from new patrons of luxury tells us the time is right to apply this assertive, confident and powerful attitude to Dawn and open this truly transformative presence to the world.”
Spirit of Ecstasy
Finished in black gloss accentuated by the huge black alloy wheels and black canvas roof, the car’s convertible roof mechanism is hidden by black leather, replacing the traditional wood decking. The iconic black Spirit of Ecstasy itself sits above the huge black chrome grille. Perhaps surprisingly, the interior isn’t totally finished in black, as a pleasing amount of orange inlay and piping on the seats emphasis the finest of leather.
Other notable features include:
- A V12 engine delivering 593bhp power output and 619lb ft torque
- 0-62mph (100kph) in just 4.9 seconds
- A top speed is 155mph
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars London will display two Dawn Black Badge models from launch in September, one with a cobalt blue interior and the other finished in white.
“Dawn has played a huge role in Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ recent success and the Black Badge edition brings a brand new persona to a hugely desirable model,” says Claus Andersen, the company’s Brand Director. “Rolls-Royce Motor Cars London is the only place for the capital’s new breed of entrepreneur to buy the new model, and we’re expecting a fantastic response come September.”
